FAQs

  • What is a sleep study and why is it done?
A sleep study, or polysomnography, is a comprehensive test used to diagnose sleep disorders. It monitors various body functions during sleep, such as brain activity, eye movement, heart rate, breathing patterns, blood oxygen levels, and muscle activity. The information gathered helps sleep specialists identify conditions like sleep apnea, insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy.
  • What is the process of evaluation at Metro Sleep?
The evaluation process at Metro Sleep begins with a thorough consultation where your sleep history, medical background, and symptoms are reviewed. Depending on the initial assessment, a sleep study may be recommended to diagnose any underlying sleep disorders.
  • Do you offer telehealth consultations?
Yes, Metro Sleep offers telehealth consultations for initial evaluations and follow-up appointments. This service provides convenient access to sleep specialists from the comfort of your home.
  • Do you evaluate and treat pediatric sleep disorders?

  • What are the types of sleep studies available at Metro Sleep?
Metro Sleep offers both in-lab polysomnography (PSG) and home sleep apnea tests (HSAT). In-lab studies are comprehensive and monitor multiple physiological parameters, while home tests are typically used to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea.
  • Do you offer both in-lab and at-home sleep studies?
Yes, we provide both in-lab and home sleep testing options, depending on the patient’s specific needs and insurance coverage requirements.
  • What is the difference between in-lab and home sleep testing?
In-lab testing involves a full overnight stay at our facility with monitoring of various physiological activities during sleep. Home sleep testing is less comprehensive, focusing primarily on breathing patterns, and is conducted in the comfort of your own home.
  • How do I prepare for an overnight sleep study?
On the day of your sleep study, avoid caffeine and naps, and follow your regular routine as much as possible. Bring comfortable sleepwear, personal toiletries, and any medications you may need overnight.
  • What happens during an in-lab sleep study?
During an in-lab sleep study, you will sleep in a private room while sensors monitor your sleep stages, heart rate, breathing, oxygen levels, and body movements. A sleep technologist will supervise the study from a nearby control room.
  • What if I can’t sleep during the test?
It's normal to have concerns about sleeping in a new environment. However, most people sleep enough during the study to gather the necessary data for an accurate diagnosis.
  • How soon will I get my results?
Results from your sleep study are typically available within 7 to 10 business days. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to discuss your results and the appropriate treatment plan.
  • What treatments do you offer for sleep apnea?
We offer several treatment options for sleep apnea, including CPAP therapy, oral appliance therapy, positional therapy, weight management programs, and Inspire hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy for eligible patients.
  • What are the treatment options if I am diagnosed with sleep apnea?
Depending on the severity and type of sleep apnea diagnosed, treatment options may include CPAP therapy, oral appliance therapy, lifestyle changes, or surgical interventions like Inspire Therapy for patients who are CPAP intolerant.
  • What is Inspire Therapy and who is it for?
Inspire Therapy is an FDA-approved treatment for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. It involves a small device implanted in the body that stimulates the hypoglossal nerve to keep the airway open during sleep. It is ideal for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP therapy.
  • What if I can’t tolerate a CPAP machine?
If CPAP therapy is not suitable for you, alternative treatments such as oral appliance therapy or Inspire Therapy may be recommended based on your specific diagnosis and needs.
  • What insurance plans do you accept?
Metro Sleep accepts most major insurance providers, including Medicare, Medicaid, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and others. Please contact our office to verify your specific insurance coverage.
  • Is the sleep study covered by insurance?
In most cases, sleep studies are covered by insurance when deemed medically necessary. Our office will assist you with insurance verification and authorization before your study.
